One Thousand

Today is MOMENTOUS for me.

Because today is my 1000th post.

{via}

I've been blogging here since November 2007 and although I had blogs before this one I have never stuck with a blog for as long as this one.  Why Girls Are Weird is my home and I can't even begin to explain how grateful I am to have this blog and to have you all as readers.

I wracked my brain to figure out what I wanted for this 1000th post.  And I decided that I'm going to share with you all some things I've learned from blogging.

10 Things I've Learned From Blogging

  1. You Need To Be Yourself - It's so easy to read other blogs and think "I want to be just like this blogger".  I do that ALL THE TIME when reading my favorite blogs.  In the end, your niche should be being YOU.  Just being genuine is what's going to bring readers in and at the end of the day it's going to make you a happy blogger.
  2. Keep It Real - Life is not always puppies and rainbows.  While your blog shouldn't always be "woe is me" it also shouldn't be "my life is sparkly and perfect"!  My favorite blogs are ones in which the bloggers open themselves up.  And I do the same because I hope that maybe a blogger going through the same stuff as me is going to find strength in the fact that they are not alone.
  3. Read Before You Comment - If you're going to comment on someone's blog, make sure you read what they write first.  There is nothing worse than writing some heart-wrenching post and then getting a comment like "Wow that is so awesome!  Follow me back!"
  4. Comment Back - If you leave a comment on my blog I will return the favor.  If you take time out of your day to comment on one of my posts of course I want to do the same for you.  It's a respect thing and I want my commentors to know that I appreciate them reading and following along.
  5. Tweet Tweet - Twitter is such an important tool for blogging because it allows you to network and interact with your readers.  PLUS it's great for when you're watching TV and want to freak out to others that are watching the same thing.
  6. Take A Break - I have yet to go on a blogging hiatus but I know that sometimes you just need a break.  Whether life is too busy or you have blogger's blog it's best just to admit you need time off than to try to keep pushing on with lame posts.  I know if or when I get to that point I'll just take a break and take some time to rejuvenate.
  7. Schedule - Try to blog on the same days at the same time, whether it's every other day in the evening or, like me, every single day in the morning.  Your bloggers will get used to your schedule and are more likely to frequent your blog.
  8. Participate But Don't Take On Too Much - Whether it's guest posts, sponsors or link ups, participating can be a great way to make new friends and network.  Just remember to only take on as much as you can handle.  Blogging should be fun, not work!
  9. Be Careful What You Post - Although it's good to be honest and open on your blog, keep in mind that people from your every day life could find your blog.  Be careful what you post, if it isn't something you'd want your dad, grandma or co-worker to see then it's better of not being posted on the internet.
  10. Get Together - I promise you, blog get-togethers are SO MUCH FUN.  If you have the opportunity to join in (or host one yourself!) then do it!  I promise you won't regret it.

I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for reading my humble blog and for being so supportive.  Stay tuned tomorrow for a very special giveaway!

P.S. I'm hosting a Scentsy giveaway! Check it out here, you know you want to!

First of all, congrats on 1,000 posts! I started at the same time and have well over 100 posts to go. You are a rockstar!

I really like your tips for blogging. All really good points. I would also add that you shouldn't be too hard on yourself as a blogger either. It will never be perfect and you will continue to grow.

Hannah

Congratulations!

These are great tips, thank for taking the time to write them.

Connie

T@PoppyPlacePdx

OMG, 1,000 posts that is totally amazing :)

I guess I hadn't been looking at how many I have posted (and the numbers are slack compared to yours, I looked :( as how many years I had survived, this is a tough biz, LOL!!! :)

I LOVE all your points on blogging and so true! No.3 it drives me nuts that someone would follow me for a day, leave a comment and leave their blog address telling me to follow back, seriously, :)

So I sincerely complement you on your 1,000 and wish you many, many more :)

Cheers, T :)

Holy cow, A THOUSAND POSTS??? That's insanely impressive! I'm still astonished that I've passed 300 :)

And I totally agree with all your points. Except that I'm really terrible about setting a schedule and sticking to it. Maybe now that I'm going back to university, I'll have to be more structured in my blogging. But up until now, it's been a world of "Okay, do I have anything I want to wibble about today? If yes, write a post. If no, better luck tomorrow!"

Congratulation on 1,000!

WooHoo to 1000! That's crazy! We bloggers have an awful lot to say ;) Haha

# 8 is so true. When I first started blogging, I agreed to guest post for everyone who asked, but it truly interfered with posting on my own blog. Now, I just admit the truth...between school and work I don't have time to guest post for others. :)

Ang

What a giant accomplishment -- congrats!!! I love your blogging advice. Why do so many people comment without reading? It's like an empty comment...means nothing, haha. Also I didn't realize you were on twitter! I'm following you there now too! :)

:)
i always love reading your posts
i can't wait to see what the next 1,000 bring!

Jo

1000 posts! That's quite a milestone! Hooray!!!! I love your list of ten. Scheduling is something I never really thought of, but it makes such good sense!! Thank you for the tip!! :) And, interestingly enough, being myself on my blog took a little bit of time. I think I had to find a way to put myself out there that I was comfortable with...find my own blogging style. I love when I discover blogs that have a style unlike anyone else's...like yours!! Happy 1000!!

Wow, congrats on 1,000 posts! That's hard for me to comprehend, though your tips are right on the money. I have a hard time posting with regularity, and I know it's been the #1 reason I haven't built a following as quickly as I'd like. But I've kept true to my voice... really, I developed my voice through my blog, and when I'm allowed to, I let it show in my professional writing, as well. So in that way, it's been pretty gratifying.

Love your blog, by the way.

Selma @ Crazy Little World Of Mine

This is an awesome post, girl, and it's all so true. :) I agree to all of it, especially to the twitter part. hahaha.

Hope you had a good day.

xoxo

Kallay

Congratulations on your 1000th post! That's amazing!

I love these tips! I'm pretty bad about #9 and should really go back and edit myself, but I like being able to be honest with people. I think it makes for more inspiring and funnier posts if you I let loose and leave it all on the line. I try not to use names though.

stringsandbuttons

Congrats and thank you for your heartfelt post. As a "new" blogger, I appreciate all the tips the "veterans" can give me. I appreciate especially the note about being oneself and about commenting when and if you have something tangible to add. Thanks again and have a lovely weekend! x

Leesh

Congrats on your 1000th post. I just hit my 1000th recently and I started blogging in August 2007. I guess it makes us pretty much on the same track.

Isn't it hard to believe that we actually wrote 1000 posts?!?!

Crazy Shenanigans-JMO

Congrats!! Totally agree with you on these points. I'm the scheduled queen during the weeks!

Lovely Light

Wow! That's an amazing achievement. I just celebrated 100! lol. Thanks for the tips. I'm doing some, but failing at others, so I'll be working on it!
