Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult

In the town of Sterling, New Hampshire it was just like any other day. Parents went to work. Kids went to school. No one would ever know that that day would be shattered by an act of violence. Josie Cormier, the daughter of the judge sitting on the case, should be the best witness for the state - except that she can't remember anything. Or can she? As the trial progresses, cracks begin to appear in the case, cracks that have the ability to destroy even the closest of friendships and families. Only a select few know what really happened that day - some that are now dead, some that can't remember, and some that simply won't tell the truth.

I read this book for the few time a few years ago. I got addicted to Jodi Picoult's books one summer and devoured them one after another. Nineteen Minutes is one of my favorites because it involves a subject that I find horrifying and interesting - school shootings. Maybe that sounds horrible but I've always been interested in the way people think and why they do the things they do.

This book is one that causes so many emotions in me. Jodi Picoult is amazing at looking at a situation from so many different points of view. In this case, you get to see the situation from the point of view of a victim, the families, a cop, lawyers and even the shooter. And the book itself poses a lot of questions. What causes someone to finally break and lose control? How can nineteen minute change the lives of so many people. Who is really to blame when a horrible act of violence happens? Is someone who commits such an act of violence truly 100% evil?

I couldn't say enough good things about this book. It's an interesting story with a plot twist at the end that you won't see coming. It made me cry the first time around and it made me cry the second time even though I knew what to expect. I would absolutely recommend it.

I haven't read any of her books for ages but she is a really good writer. I love how she always challenges and writes about subjects that are typically somewhat taboo within literature.

I am a huge Jodi Picoult fan! I love how all of her books are written from several different perspectives with twists. Just FYI -I've seen lots of them made into Lifetime movies recently too - Tenth Circle, Salem Falls...
The Pact is one of my all time favs. This one was good too.

Oh, man... this looks so good! I love her and I didn't even think know about this one. I love when she does her different view points. Makes the reading so much more enriching and, at times, complicated- but in a good way.

I love that Picoult's books don't have endings (or middles or beginnings) that are Hollywood, fake and happy. I could see these books happening in real life, you know?

Wow, what a great review. Well done, girl! Jodi Picoult is an amazing author.

School shooting is such a touchy subject especially nowadays. It happens a lot and it's terrible. :/

P.S. Thanks for checking out my dry shampoo review!
